Sound the alarm! Australia’s high-powered dub and dancehall sub-bass vessel Dubmarine are taking the wraps off their much-anticipated debut album Depth of Sound! The album’s release comes at the tail end of what’s already been a huge year for Dubmarine. Taking in Germany, Belgium, Netherlands and the Czech Republic, July saw them complete a massive European festival tour before turning in a pair of unforgettable sets at September’s BIGSOUND conference back on their home turf of Brisbane. On stage, led by the vocal gymnastics of indigenous superstar and Darumbal man D-Kazman, the nine piece create a deep dancehall, reggae, dub based musical pandemonium, producing the sound and fury of electronic music, in all of its hip shaking glory – but on live instruments.

Georgie Swift and Milenka Osen created TMOD after completing their Design studies together at The College Of Fine arts (COFA, UNSW) in 2007. TMOD is a driven by a desire to design without constraints, merging boundaries and challenging the expectations of functionality and purpose.

TMOD specialises in experiential multidisciplinary design, using a combination of materials and processes. This amalgamation of the fields of design, including jewellery, object and graphics, has a focus on interaction. TMOD’s stationary and jewellery designs create a playful sense of experience, with elements of the unexpected.

Two Flat Whites in conjunction with our friends at Design Federation are giving four (4) lucky people the chance to win a copy of the Design Federation Book ‘The Annual’, which is being released on the 25 ^th November 2010.

The Federation Annual will be released at an exclusive launch party sponsored by Peroni and Nespresso at The Art Lounge kicking off at 7pm on the 25th November 2010. Design Federation called upon the many talents of their readership and supporters (the “Friends of the Federation”) for submissions to feature in this exciting inaugural departure from the virtual to the actual.

This print debut will serve as a striking visual showcase of the community in a beautiful, full-colour inspiration book. The theme of the book was “1” to celebrate the first book of its kind and demonstrate Design Federation’s solidarity with the Aussie design community.

All profits from The Federation Annual will be going to Mission Australia’s Creative Youth Initiative (CYI). Based in Sydney’s Surry Hills, CYI is a unique service that provides young people aged 16-25, who are facing many and varied challenges in their lives, such as homelessness, mental health issues, substance abuse, family breakdown, unemployment and early school leavers the opportunity to access professional and accredited creative programs. Design Federation has partnered with CYI to raise awareness for the program and promote their inspirational work.
